Somtum (spicy papaya salad) is a popular dish in these parts. However, very few restaurants specialize in creating new and different combinations of the recipe. Only fresh produce is used (and no MSG) in preparing unique offerings like Tum Muang Muang was created by the owner of the popular Somtum House who was inspired by the Lanna bamboo shoot salad. Using bamboo shoots, cucumbers and the pungent flavours of pickled crab sauce, these Lanna flavours are pounded together and served alongside little dishes such as pork rind, pork sausage, fermented pork, northern sausage, Northern Thai Green Chilli Dip and Northern Thai Meat and Tomato Spicy Dip. Spicy Flower Crab Salad and Shrimp Larb, shrimps served in small plates, each shrimp seasoned with Eastern Thai style spices and dressing. Refreshing drinks are also available.
